Prices Act 1974

This Act gives the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment the power to make orders to control the display of pricing information. Price marking orders made under the Act require the prices of products, from tins of food to cars, to be clearly shown. For example, the selling price of cars for sale on a garage forecourt has to be displayed, while for products such as fruit and vegetables sold loose by weight, the price per kilogram must be displayed.
