Milltown Trucks fined for car clocking - 22/06/2012

A Newtownstewart commercial vehicle company, Milltown Trucks Ltd has been fined a total of £500 at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court, for advertising a clocked Nissan Navara.

In a case brought by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment’s Trading Standards Service (TSS), Milltown Trucks Ltd, 78 Strabane Road, Newtownstewart, Co Tyrone pleaded guilty to one charge under The Business Protection from Misleading Marketing Regulations 2008.

In December 2010, Trading Standards received a complaint that Milltown Trucks Ltd had sold a Nissan Navara 4 x 4 Jeep with an incorrect odometer reading to a Donegal businessman. The vehicle in question was initially purchased by Milltown Trucks Ltd in November 2009 with 145,643 recorded miles. However when the company sold the vehicle, in January 2010, the mileage indication was 78638 miles.

Raymond Dolan of the Trading Standards Service said: “This type of case has become all too common and demonstrates the lengths some traders will go to hide the truth about the vehicles they are selling. It is not just consumer purchasers of “clocked” vehicles that suffer. Legitimate dealers are also victims of this type of deceptive behaviour.”
